Fort Madison Community Hospital (FMCH) is an accredited, fully equipped 50-bed "Primary Care" facility. Built on a 20-acre site at the west end of Fort Madison, it is situated near the junction of Highways 2 and 61, providing easy access for all area residents. FMCH employs more than 350 people.
A modern, one-story facility, the hospital was designed using the "medical mall" concept, with everything contained on one level. Constructed in 1986, it was built to replace an 80-year old structure on Avenue H, the former Sacred Heart Hospital, which was operated by the Sisters of the Third Order of Saint Francis.
When the current FMCH facility was built, it included more than 58,000 square feet. Since then, several remodeling projects and additions have been completed to keep the hospital up-to-date with changing healthcare trends and patient needs.
FMCH garnered high marks during its most recent visit by a nationwide team from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. And once again, FMCH achieved the Joint Commission's accreditation status. FMCH was also named a 100 Top Hospital by Solcient in 2001. For more about this award winning hospital, click here.
Healthcare needs in Fort Madison are also available outside the hospital through various medical clinics, chiropractors, optometrists, home healthcare services and the Fort Madison nursing home/rehabilitation center.
