Location

Fort Madison is located in the southeast corner of Iowa along the Mississippi. 4-lane US Hwy 61 runs east and west through the city with IA Hwy 2 connecting at the base of the Sante Fe Bridge before crossing into Illinois running west through town. Fort Madison is within 15 miles from US Hwy 218/27 "Avenue of the Saints" connecting St Paul MN with St Louis MO. The Burlington Northern Sante Fe Railroad runs through town crossing the Sante Fe Bridge into Illinois headed for the east coast. Amtrak stops in Fort Madison coming from the west coast heading to Chicago daily.

On the bend of the Mississippi River in eastern Lee County, Fort Madison is a key stop for all major transportation systems; road, rail and water.
